Traditionally, „Black Friday“ is organized on the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the USA (from where this practice is adopted), which means in the period between November 23 and 29.

What matters are the fundamental rules regarding price reductions in general, regardless of the time during which they are conducted!

1. The reduction is made at specially designated locations;

2. The consumer has the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days by paying the transport costs;

3. The reduction must specify exactly which goods and/or services are discounted;

4. The conditions under which the price reduction is carried out;

5. The period during which the goods and services are sold at reduced prices;

6. The new price is placed next to the previous one, which is crossed out, or by using the words „new price“ and „previous price,“ or by indicating a percentage along with both prices;

7. A price is reduced that has been valid for at least 30 days /and this must be provable to inspection authorities/ before the reduction /special cases include perishable goods – a period of 7 days/ ;

8. Price reductions cannot be applied for a period longer than one month and shorter than one working day /there are special cases where this is permitted/;

9. The online sale of prescription medicines is prohibited;

10. It is prohibited to mislead the consumer regarding the duration, the availability of the goods, or whether there is a real price reduction at all before and after;

 

 

What is the merchant’s obligation?

The merchant must provide information in writing, in Bulgarian, regarding:

1. The main characteristics of the goods and/or services

2. The manufacturer and/or importer

3. Expiration date

4. The price of the goods including all taxes and for what quantity – unambiguously

5. It is prohibited to display different prices for the same type of goods, unless they are used, non-food items with an expired shelf life, deformed goods, or items with reduced prices
